The Hard Way

There were a few things I noticed about my child during his first few years which had gotten me worried. I have discussed the same to my husband who also observed the whole thing and yet remained quiet about the situation thinking that it was something normal. Both of us decided then that we needed to have a professional tell us what the problem may be.

The doctor revealed to us that our son is suffering from autism. At first it was a very difficult thing to accept especially since I knew both my husband and I would not forever be around to take care of him. I started reading about autism information and allowed myself to grasp the situation at hand. I love my son and I would do anything I can to make sure he is well taken care of, no matter what condition he may be suffering from.

Pros and Cons on Vaccination

When a person is vaccinated, an agent that consists of weakened or killed versions of a microbe is introduced into the body. This is supposed to stimulate the body’s immune system, to recognize it as a harmful body and destroy it. The body’s immune system then remembers and destroys it if it encounters it again in the future. Vaccination is usually prophylactic, meaning it is protection against future invasion. It cannot be used as a cure.

Vaccination has been proven to be effective. Without it, large areas of the world would still be in grave danger of TB and polio. Early vaccinations of BCG and Polio vaccines have deemed these dangers obliterated. And yet, there are still doctors who are not convinced. Dr. J.M. Peebles of San Francisco, has written a book on vaccine, in which he says “The vaccination practice, pushed to the front on all occasions by the medical profession through political connivance made compulsory by the state, has not only become the chief menace and the greatest danger to the health of the rising generation, but likewise the crowning outrage upon the personal liberties of the American citizen.”

Different Ways of Detoxifying the Body

Heavy metals are chemical elements that are at least five times as dense as water. Some heavy metals are required by the body in small amounts. Examples of these are zinc, copper, iron and manganese. Other heavy metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium can cause toxic effects. When large amounts of these elements accumulate in the soft tissues of the body, it can result in heavy metal poisoning. It is bad because they compete with essential minerals and interfere with organ functions.

When this occurs, they should be removed from the body in a process of heavy metal detox. There are different ways by which this is done. In conventional medicine there are dialysis and chelation therapies. Alternative medicine has its own way such as diet detoxification. This is a cleansing diet that claims to remove toxins and poisons from the body.

Behavior therapy focuses on teaching autistic children and adults how to behave properly. There are different approaches to this type of therapy.

Physical therapy is often provided to individuals with autism to help improve their coordinating skills and muscle tone. This type of therapy is needed more for younger children who might be experiencing developmental delays with basic motor skills such as walking, jumping, and throwing. Learning about Autism

Autism is a condition that is manifested early in childhood. The signs begin as early as six months after birth and become apparent before the child is three years old. What makes it complicated to diagnose is that there is no single symptom. There are, however, signs of impairment in social interaction, communication, restricted interest and repetitive behavior. Autistic infants are less responsive to social interaction.

Families with autistic children will need to get together all the autism information that they can gather. Being informed and having an understanding of the characteristics of autistic behavior will be a big help in the improvement and eventual cure for the autistic child. Being in constant communication with doctors is a necessity. By doctors, we mean a team of doctors with various specialities. These will include a pediatrician, a pediatric neurologist, psychiatrist and speech and language therapists.

Applied Behavioral Analysis

There is no known cure for autism. There are, however, loads of suggested autism treatments that may or may not help. As professionals keep telling us, there is no formula for treatment of autism that can be applied to a majority of sufferers. Every child’s need is different. It pays to read about them for the sake of being informed.

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is the oldest and most fully researched treatment specifically developed for autism. ABA is a very intensive system of reward-based training which focuses on teaching particular skills. ABA therapists give children with autism small rewards for appropriate responses. Those rewards, called reinforcers, should be based on the interests and preferences of the individual child. More importantly, those rewards should be so interesting to the child that they are worth the hard work of responding to the therapist.

Causes of Autism

There have been a lot of debates regarding the causes of autism. There are schools of thought espousing that this is a birth defect. Others claim that autism is caused by mercury poisoning. Whether it is birth defects mercury poisoning is considered to be one of the major causes. There are a lot of common characteristics that are comparable between autism and those that are victims of mercury poisoning.

Some of these characteristics are as follows: shyness, social withdrawal and deficits; depression, mood swings and the expressionless face; anxiety and irrational fears which are just some of the common traits shared. This is the primary reason why mercury is being banned in all products that contain them. It would be better to err on the side of caution in using products with mercury in them than to risk being poisoned and having regrets later.
