A financial plan is a series of steps that are carried out which relate to an individual’s or a business’s financial affairs. This plan will often include a budget that organizes finances and may also include specific goals for spending and saving future income. Financial planning may mean different things to different people. Some concerns for elderly financial planning will include the type of long term care for the elderly, as well as estate planning and inheritance issues.

Getting the services of a financial planner will help you in understanding and evaluating different options for elderly financial planning. This will also help in avoiding confusion, frustration, major errors, and even family dissension. Financial decisions are often more than just about money. Financial planning for the elderly should begin with acknowledging all present and possible future situations that might be encountered and should generally be holistic in nature.

One of the most difficult activities for a person taking care of the elders or those with disabilities is giving them a bath. Since our loved ones would be heavily dependent on us to wash and clean them up, it can be quite a challenge when there’s two of you cramped in a small space. Not only that, the floors and walls can be quite dangerous, and a simple slip may cause further damage or even fatality in the end. Add to that the soap and suds that would make the place slippery for both you and your loved one.

When it’s time to take a bath, getting your loved one to sit in a folding shower chair is the best way to fully clean him while making sure that he is free from the dangers of slipping and sliding. This chair also allows ease for you when you have two free hands to give your loved one a bath. Your patient can also comfortably sit while he is taking his bath, making it a much easier activity for the both of you. Not only that, you can keep it away when you’re through! Cleaning up is a breeze with a folding shower chair.

Correct the Length

A heel lift is a wedge-shaped insert that is placed in the rear part of the shoe, usually to correct a discrepancy in leg length. This insert is generally made from a fairly solid, waterproof material, with some models adjustable to different heights. Sustained use of heel lifts can correct posture and gait irregularities, which will relieve the pain often associated with structural imbalances in the lower body. Heel lifts should only be worn with a doctor’s recommendation.

These lifts are most commonly used to correct leg length discrepancy. This discrepancy may be due to a length variance in the bones of the legs, or it can also result from other musculoskeletal issues, such as scoliosis or other pelvic deformity. Usually, the body naturally adapts the posture and walk to compensate for such structural irregularities. Placing a heel lift into the shoe equalizes leg length which will instantly correct abnormalities of the stance and gait, eliminating discomfort and pain.

Caring for Mom

After undergoing a major operation, I had to take in my mother to ensure that she can recover fast and well. She had always refused to live in with me and my husband, but given these circumstances she was left with no choice. I personally think it was a blessing in disguise. At least I can now rid myself of worrying if she would be okay being alone in the house.

After clearing up our guest room and purchasing equipment to help me care for her, I knew I had my work cut out for me. Feeding time was conducted right in her room due to the difficulty of her moving from one place to another. Bathing was much easier with the bath chair. Caring for mom was just a way of showing my love, and at least now I can give back all the care and hard work she put into rearing me to the person I am right now.

Advance planning is needed for efficient care for the elderly. It can make a critical difference in the life of the elderly and family members who have to take care of them. A geriatric care plan takes care of this. It is an ongoing process that will be helpful in emergency situations. It will also make life easier for caregivers when faced with end-of-life situations.

Planning needs to be comprehensive and should include members of the family. The plan should cover not only physical requirements but also the elderly’s personal values and beliefs. Most people have ideas about how they want to spend their senior years; this should be a major consideration. There are professionals who can assist in creating advance plans. They can offer options that may have not been known to the elderly and their relatives.

Choosing the Right Trustee

June 6th, 2011

It is never too early to write your living will. This is a kind of directive, prepared in advance giving instructions about how treatment should be conducted in the event of illness. Orders can be very specific such as what to do when the heart stops beating or when the brain stops working. You can refuse certain procedures such as life support or external feeding. These end-of-life decisions are discussed with relatives and put into writing.

Perhaps the most important decision to make when preparing advanced medical directive is choosing the trustee and providing family caregivers to assume the responsibilities. A good choice will ensure that a loved one is properly cared for. Sometimes, powers of attorney are named. These persons can make health care decisions in behalf of the maker. The appointed health care proxy has, in essence, the same rights to request or refuse treatment that the individual would have if still capable of making and communicating health care decisions.
