Chalean Extreme

Losing weight while sleeping? That is what Chalene Johnson promises in her new workout series, Chalean Extreme. The system mixes weightlifting and cardio to jumpstart your metabolism. The weightlifting builds muscle. New routines and dynamic moves melt the fat off your body. The 90 day program builds new body strength and muscle tone.

The goal is to challenge the muscles’ response to the ‘push’ phase by shifting to a higher level of strength, range of motion and tone. Having significant muscle mass allows the body to burn calories. The higher muscle mass allows for a higher basal metabolic rate, the number of calories burned at rest. So, can you lose weight while sleeping? Yes, but you will have to push your muscles to the limit first.

An ordinary inflatable ball can be a great tool for performing many exercises. However, a Pilates ball is more ideal when doing Pilates, a special kind of exercise that emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength and flexibility to support efficient and graceful movement.

A weighted Pilates ball is a safe and fun way to build hand and forearm strength. Its soft vinyl exterior and flexible sand core is designed for comfort, durability and safety. It is not only great for Pilates activities but can also be used for yoga and light resistance or rehab workouts. It has a user-determined handgrip for more comfortable and flexible use.

The fastest way to build body mass is through weight training. To build muscle mass means you have to have a regular routine program targeting a specific group of body parts. For instance, if you want to build mass on your chest, a simple bench press on a flat back support can do the trick. In the absence of free weights, you can do push ups instead.

On the other hand, if you want to build muscles in the leg area, lunges can very effective too. Mass building requires heavy weight with less repetition. Military press in combination with other upper body exercises is also a good way to building up body mass. When performing all these exercises, remember to have a heavy protein diet as protein is the fundamental building block for cell and tissue regeneration.

shoulder exercises

November 18th, 2009

The shoulder area of the body has muscle groups that typically are not worked during every day activities. This is the main reason why people need to do shoulder exercises. There are two types of exercises you can do to work out the shoulders:

~Strength training or muscle building includes things such as dumbbell rows and overhead presses. In some cases, these exercises involve using resistance with the weight to increase muscle mass.
~Stretching works on extending the muscles rather than building muscle mass. These exercises will benefit those who want to improve their posture or who recently had surgery.

posture exercises

November 17th, 2009

We often hear instructions to “sit and stand straight” and “don’t bend or slouch”. There is a reason why these are often told to kids and adults alike. A good posture is needed to maintain the two natural concave curves of the spine. Correct posture is important to keep the spinal cord and muscles aligned and to reduce stress on the ligaments and joint surfaces as well as to prevent muscular and back pain.

Thus, it is advisable to do posture exercises to improve one’s physique. Try dance hooping because aside from being a great cardio activity, it has several advantages over other standard exercises like cycling, stair climbing and rowing. Dance hooping is very effective in promoting stability, posture and balance. You will also engage all 35 muscles located in your core area which serves to tone your body.

pedometers

November 9th, 2009

More and more people are getting overweight. To battle this problem, people are exercising. One of the best exercise program and activity is walking. It is cheap, stresses the body minimally and will build your endurance. To add some pep in your workout, try using pedometers.

Pedometers are step counters. It counts every step you make. Most doctors will recommend you take 10,000 steps a day to be fit. Ideally, you wear it the moment you wake up and go do your routine. Go to work, go to lunch, do your groceries, whatever. At the end of the work day, check how many steps you took and subtract it from 10,000. The balance is how many steps you need to exercise. For example, your whole day might take you 7,000 to 8,000 steps so all you need to do is walk 2,000 to 3,000 steps. That’s about 20 to 25 minutes depending on your cadence.

high intensity workouts

November 5th, 2009

People should have specific goals in mind before starting any sort of exercise. For instance, if you are training to climb a mountain or plan to go backpacking with several steady days of hiking, you will have to lose pounds to make it easier to move around.

To burn calories more effectively during exercise, fitness experts recommended short but high intensity workouts instead of going for longer but lower intensity exercises. The American College of Sports Medicine reports that more calories are eliminated when one engages in short, high intensity exercises.

flat stomach

October 28th, 2009

Most guys want to have 6 pack abs. Unfortunately, not everyone can have a flat stomach. You can do 1,000 crunches a day and eat only vegetables and still you won’t get it. I know people who are great endurance athletes and have a big stomach. Look at the cyclist.

Some time ago, the standard for a healthy strong man is the bulky body builder; someone who has big biceps, huge chest and a monstrous thigh. There was even a measurement for it. Your neck, biceps and calves were supposed to be the same size. Nowadays, the standard is a small flat stomach. Lean is in.
