For the past 40 years, adult hematopoietic, or blood-forming, stem cells have been used for bone marrow transplants. Now, scientists have also reason to believe the adult stem cells also exist in the brain and the heart. They say that if the differentiation of adult stem cells can be controlled in the laboratory, these cells may become the basis of transplantation-based therapies.

An adult stem cell is an undifferentiated cell found among differentiated cells in a tissue or organ. It can renew itself and can differentiate to yield some or all of the major specialized cell types of the tissue or organ. The primary role of adult stem cells in a living organism is to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found.

What can we do to boost a weakened immune system? The first step is of course to avoid what is causing it. Be careful with what you eat and drink. Also, take immune boosting foods such as citrus and garlic. Vitamin C is found to be very effective in immune system boost. It can be taken as a pill or by eating Vitamin C rich foods.

It is suggested that the production of antibodies to fight infection can be helped by herbal medication such as Echinacea, Licorice and Siberian ginseng. These applications are still undergoing research. Another suggested way to help the immune system is to use essential oils for a lymphatic massage. Lymph nodes located around the body, particularly in the throat, groin, breasts, and under the arms are like filtering centers for cleansing the blood. The lymphatic system moves cellular fluid through the system, cleansing the body of waste produced by the body’s metabolic functions.

Massage and the use of herbal medication can also be a big help to diabetics. Although these are forms of natural cure for diabetes, it is always a good idea to consult your physician before subjecting yourself to these methods. It is common knowledge that both emotional and physical stress can aggravate diabetes. Massage is recommended for stress reduction. The massage should concentrate on relaxing the central nervous system and should consist of rhythmical continuous effleurage and gentle medium/slow continuous vibration. This full-body massage should last 30 minutes at the most, and can be done once or twice a week. By reducing stress, this massage treatment may postpone the onset of diabetes mellitus

Diabetes may also be treated with plant medicines. Some preparations that have proven to be effective are bitter melon, also known as balsam pear and gymnema. Bitter melon is a tropical vegetable widely cultivated in Asia, Africa and South America. Its fresh juice or extract is known for its sugar lowering action. Gymnema assists the pancreas in the production of insulin in Type 2 diabetes. Gymnema also improves the ability of insulin to lower blood sugar in both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. It decreases cravings for sweet. This herb can be an excellent substitute for oral blood sugar-lowering drugs in Type 2 diabetes. 500 mg per day of gymnema extract works well for most people.
