Essential Tissue

It is very important to maintain bone health because of the many functions of the bones in the human body. Not only do our bones make up our frame, but they also protect muscles and vital organs while storing calcium and other minerals. A special, fatty tissue that houses stem cells and are located inside a few large bones are called bone marrow. These stem cells transform themselves into red and white blood cells and platelets, which are essential for immunity and circulation.

There are two types of bone marrow which are the red marrow and the yellow marrow. Red blood cells, platelets, and most white blood cells arise in red marrow. Both types of bone marrow contain numerous blood vessels and capillaries. At birth, all our bone marrow is red, but with age, more and more of it is converted to the yellow type. Red marrow is found mainly in the flat bones, while yellow marrow is found in the medullary cavity, which is the hollow interior of the middle portion of long bones.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis among Americans. This condition is a degenerative joint disease that generally does not appear until middle age or following trauma to a joint. A person suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee will usually experience some degree of pain and a restricted range of motion that will usually limit his or her ability to perform the activities of daily living.

Osteoarthritis symptoms tend to worsen over time, so it is very important to consult a doctor at the first signs of joint problems. Doctors can suggest medication, physical therapy, or sometimes even surgery to help patients maintain strong knee joints. The most common cause of osteoarthritis of the knee is aging. As a person gets older, cartilage tissue will naturally break down and the best way to combat this is by living healthy.

Normal Levels

Blood pressure is defined as the measurement of the force of blood against the arterial walls when the heart pumps. This pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is expressed in two numbers. The optimal or healthy blood pressure of an adult is 120 over 80 or 120/80, with the top number being the systolic pressure that measures the highest pressure exerted when the heart contracts.

The bottom number is known as the diastolic pressure which shows the minimum pressure against the arteries when the heart is resting in between beats. Several factors can affect blood pressure, so one high reading does not automatically mean that a person has hypertension, or high blood pressure. Blood pressure is usually monitored over a period of time to be able to truly determine the accurate blood pressure of a person.

What is Glucosamine?

In arthritic conditions, the rubbery material that cushions joints become stiff and it loses elasticity. Deterioration of the cartilage causes the pain, swelling and loss of movement that is associated with arthritis. This can be prevented by maintaining overall good health and strength with exercise and good nutrition. Once it is there, however, help can only be had with medication in addition to exercise and good nutrition. Glucosamine, a chemical that is naturally found in the body helps repair damaged cartilage. In its early stages, management of the symptoms is easier.

Taking glucosamine as a supplement is suggested to help in the repair of damaged cartilage. Health care providers suggest a three month trial of glucosamine and discontinuing it if there is no improvement after three months. A typical dose for osteoarthritis is 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate each day. Short-term use of the substance is apparently well tolerated. There are, however, minor side effects that include drowsiness, headache, insomnia and temporary digestive disorders.

It’s a scary thought to consider the number of heart-attack patients our nation witnesses each year. One of the nation’s leading causes of death is heart disease, which naturally can lead to heat attacks, and both men and women are at risk. Therefore, it’s important that people, young and old, became aware of the minor and major things they can do to greatly reduce their risk of poor heart health.

If you have trouble falling asleep on a regular basis, or have trouble getting back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night, or wake up too early in the morning, it is possible that you have insomnia. Insomnia can be devastating. Not only does it make the person feel lousy; it can also be a health hazard. It leaves the person far from alert as he goes about his daily activities. It can also cause him deteriorating health because he is not getting the right amount of sleep that the body needs.

Doctors will usually recommend sleeping aids but these are temporary solutions. There are also different kinds of mechanical devices but they don’t work for everyone. An insomniac will be better off trying natural sleep aids. Relaxation techniques are one of the most effective ways to increase sleep time, fall asleep faster, and feel more rested in the morning. Herbs such as valerian are also being recommended. They are not addicting and do not result in a groggy feeling in the morning.
