Save a Life

Two years ago my father suffered a heart attack. Fortunately we live close to a hospital. We rushed him to the emergency room and he was revived. The rest of the family members rushed to the emergency room within an hour. The sight that greeted us however was not pleasant. There were several automated external defibrillators around ready to revive any patient.

Automated external defibrillators are a must in every ambulance and hospital. These machines are there to help save a life. They are to be used when a patient is close to cardiac arrest. It jolts the patient, sending electric currents to help the heart pump blood. Only specially trained professionals like medics and doctors are qualified to use this machine.

Confirming Pregnancy

A pregnancy test lets a woman know, one way or another, if she is pregnant. If you experience symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, a missed period and fatigue, pregnancy testing can help confirm your condition. Pregnancy tests are designed to test if a woman’s urine or blood contains a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). It is produced right after a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterus.

A pregnant woman’s levels of hCG continue to rise fast and doubles every two to three days. Two main kinds of pregnancy tests are available:

  • Urine tests can be done at home or in a doctor’s office. Home pregnancy tests (HPTs) can already be used one week after a missed period. They are private and convenient.
  • Blood tests are done at a doctor’s clinic. They can detect pregnancy earlier than an HPT but the results take longer to be released.

An emergency instruction device does exactly that. It provides instructions on what to do in case of an emergency. It tells responders when to get, turn on and use the EID. It keeps responders focused on accepted protocols and treatment. In this way there is little room for panic.

FirstVoice EID is a small machine that can fit easily inside a bag or clip into a responder system. A combination of audio prompts and visual display provides clear instructions. It is useful in locations that are not easily accessible. FirstVoice EID can be customized for specific protocols. It is also capable of multiple languages.

The Meaning of 420

There are many theories about the origin of 420. A lot of people ask what is 420 and there is no one answer to that question. Some people say that it is a code amongst marijuana users. One theory says 420 came from a police code that announces marijuana use is taking place. Another story says 4:20 started as the official meeting time to smoke marijuana by a group of guys in the 1970’s.

Some users feel that marijuana is best smoked at 4:20 to enhance appreciation of the plant. April 20 or 4/20 is another usage which means it’s time to sow the plant before the summer. Whatever the real story is, 420 remains an important part of the marijuana culture since the 1970s.

Being prepared with a defibrillator is critical. Many models are available which are built with sturdy materials that are user friendly for either laypersons or more skilled users. To further reduce panic and stress on the scene, you must also have an emergency instruction device to provide you with step-by-step verbal instructions for most emergency situations.

AEDs are a great help to patients nurturing specific kinds of heart disease. But AEDs are not the only devices that are available to help patients needing medical emergency treatment. There is also CPR assistance devices that indicate the correct rate and chest compression force required for effective external heart massage. It is a simple feedback mechanism, which can be used very easily in a real emergency.

An emergency instruction device is another tool for emergencies. It can be likened to a talking First Aid Book. When it comes to emergency situations, time is of the essence. In fact, cardiac arrest should be attended to within 10 minutes from attack. Heart rhythm can immediately be analyzed using an automatic external defibrillator. In the event that irregularities were displayed, this device can apply electric shock which can help revive the patient and hopefully save his life. This is usually used when a layman responds to help out a person who has had a sudden cardiac arrest.

Automatic external defibrillator is limited to treating only irregular patterns of ventricular fibrillation (contraction of cardiac muscles of the ventricles) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia (fast heart rhythm). This cannot be used for shock asystole or flat line patterns. This device makes use of voice instruction that guides the user on the step by step procedure through the entire defibrillation procedure. In terms of size, this is typically light and portable so you could bring it anywhere to allow you to respond to emergency situations anytime anywhere.
