contour pillow

August 11th, 2009

There are plenty of pillows in the market. Aside from the usual pillow that you buy in the stores there are neck pillows, body pillows, hotdog pillows etc…There are even pillows for pregnant women. These pregnancy pillows are meant to cushion a woman’s belly. There is also a contour pillow which bends or “deflates” according the weight being put on it.

A contour pillow can be used for sleeping, for resting and for relaxing. It helps align the spine while you sleep. There are also special contour pillows such as pregnancy pillows that help support the belly which may be heavy especially during the last trimester. Since pregnant women are advised to sleep on their left side, a contour pillow provides cushion for the woman’s side and belly. They work on the same principle as the head pillow.

People who travel a lot for a living have taken comfort to a whole new level. You can always spot the business travelers, the frequent travelers and the seasoned travelers; they are the ones who rarely look stressed and tired after a long flight or road trip. Their secret is simple; they rarely take long trips without their travel pillows. Travel pillows are small padded head supports usually made of firm cushion. This allows you to support your neck while resting your head on a seat’s head rest.

Travel pillows are a must for seasoned travelers. Sometimes, they are all that’s needed to get you to rest and sleep comfortably while on the road. The 2 most common travel pillows are the small rectangular ones similar to the ones given by the airlines, and the u-shaped neck pillows. The u- shaped neck pillow is by far the most common of all travel pillows. Its purpose is to support the neck and provide a ready head rest anytime anywhere.

memory foam pillow

July 22nd, 2009

I have not yet tried this latest trend in bedding accessories but I confess that I had been dreaming of doing just that this last few months. If the memory foam pillow were not that expensive, I probably would have a few already waiting for me at night. From what I gather, it is made of material that responds to changes in temperature. As the foam comes in contact with an increase in temperature, the foam realigns to provide a cushion, by softening at the points where the body increases the temperature of the foam. A memory pillow will mold itself to the contours of the head and neck providing support where it is needed.

Where before these pillows were only available through specialty stores and TV shopping sites, now they are obtainable from stores that sell mattresses and even from bedding sections of department stores. Those who have reviewed the product compliment their extremely supportive qualities which make them a better option for people with back or neck problems. It is also believed that they are more resistant to dust mites than regular foam. They are claimed to be hypoallergenic and anti-microbial as well. However, they tend to retain body heat and could be warmer to the body than natural cotton or down pillows.

A career person spends most of his time working. And at the end of the day, all he wants to do is lie down and rest. More than good eat, a better sleep is what this tired body firstly loves to achieve. Even on the way home, he could already picture himself lying on neat soft cushioned bed surrounded with cuddly pillows. Oh, how he imagines the comforter that warms his cold feet, and the blanket that doubles the warmth.

With a complete set of soothing beddings, there definitely is no other relaxing feeling than rest in fabric soft and clean. But your sleep is even much more peaceful and undisturbed if you prepare well for it.

buckwheat pillow

July 8th, 2009

One of the best things in life is sleeping. I am now 38 and I still sleep eight to ten hours a day. I also take an afternoon nap. This is why I can skimp on other luxuries but I do not scrimp on a high quality bed, mattress and beddings. Nothing comes close to the feel of a beautiful and comfortable bed with a couple of plump pillows. Since I like sleeping with a lot of pillows, my husband decided to give me a buckwheat pillow for my birthday.

Buckwheat pillows are supposedly to be the best in the world. It is hypoallergenic and can last for 15 years. You don’t even have to change it because of dust mites. I’m going to use my buckwheat pillow for my head. You see, even my pillows have some sort of “hierarchy”. The oldest pillows go to my feet and cover my back. The latest pillow I use for my head.

maternity pillow

June 16th, 2009

Pregnant women go through certain discomforts brought about by physical changes in the body. Internally, she might experience increase in histamine as a result of hormonal changes. Externally, she will be experiencing excessive weight gain that adds to the uneasiness. Towards the end of her term, she will be going through moderate to severe back pain. Going to bed will not be easy as she has to experiment between lying on her back or on her side.

A maternity pillow will help her find comfort in bed. It is similar to the normal pillow except that it is shaped differently. Maternity pillows come in different shapes and sizes; depending on the need of the user. The maternity pillow should be able to support the protruding tummy while easing strain in the back. This will somehow give comfort to the pregnant mom-to-be which will redound to the well-being of the unborn child.

snore relief

June 10th, 2009

My family is on the heavy side. I also come from a family of obnoxious snorers. That’s why it comes as no surprise that when I reached my teenage years I snored like a monster. Even my pet bulldog snores! When I got married I decided to look for some snore relief solutions because I did not want my wife to throw me out of our bed.

Snore relief was definitely a major issue in our marriage during the first few weeks. My wife would have to sleep ahead of me so she would be in a deep slumber by the time I started snoring. Unfortunately she does not like going to bed early since she loves watching late night shows. She bought me a snore relief pillow which I was supposed to try for a week. At first I wasn’t so sure it would help. The pillow would just help me sleep on my side so I would not snore. This turned out to be a good buy since I didn’t realize that snoring is also bad for one’s health.

Neck support pillow

June 5th, 2009

The human neck curves slightly forward (to sustain the weight of the head when upright), and it’s important to maintain this curve when in a resting position. The kind of pillow being used has a lot to do with maintaining just the right amount of curve of the neck. If the pillow is too thick, the neck is abnormally curved forward; if it is too low, the muscles of the neck can be strained. Wrong kind of pillow can cause some abnormalities such as the narrowing of the air pipe that can cause difficulty in breathing. It is even mentioned as a cause of snoring.

Neck support pillow are useful for supporting the neck and minimizing the probability of neck strain. Choosing the right pillow might be difficult with the different types of pillows available today. Each person will have a different kind of need. Some anatomical issues might have to be considered. In some cases, you might even need the assistance of your doctor to determine which pillow type will give the kind of support that your body needs.

neck support pillows

A rolled up towel works well with my husband. He wakes up refreshed and relieved of neck pain. Those who still suffer from stiff neck on waking up should not follow his example because scientifically designed neck support pillows are available in the market. And they come in different forms. We have memory foam and the water pillow that fully adjusts to the neck contour.

Other versions of the neck pillow are there not just to sleep on. When traveling long distance, on an airplane or in a bus, a neck travel pillow will support the head in a forward position. This will allow the person to read or listen to music comfortably. And what about, heated and scented neck pillows. They will make you rest better and feel renewed every day.
