Scent of my Childhood

September 15th, 2011

They say that a scent can bring back memories very strongly. I can attest to it because I experience it every time I smell a certain kind of smell. When I was a child I would always remember days wherein sandalwood can be smelled inside the house. It was the smell that helped me remember the fun days I and with my parents and siblings.

These days, I now live alone and I am far from my parents and siblings. We can say that we have gone separate ways and we now only see each other during very special occasions. That’s why I bought sandalwood fragrance oil that I can use whenever I miss them. Every time I heat the oil up, I always transport to those fun times with them.

Reducing Strain

A knee pillow is a type of orthopedic pillow that is designed to ease pain in the back, hip, and knee areas. This is a type of knee wedge support that is utilized by placing the pillow between the knees at night, keeping them separate and therefore reducing strain on the hipbones. People who sleep on their side are quite familiar with the discomfort resulting from one knee resting on the other while sleeping. Not only is it uncomfortable, but it can also lead to further pain in the lower back and hip because of the unnatural positioning of the knees.

Most knee pillows are hourglass shaped or have a rectangular form. A knee pillow with an hourglass shape tends to stay in place overnight fairly well, since it contours to the general shape of the knees and legs. A rectangular knee pillow does not have this advantage, which is why some models are available with a fabric strap that wraps around one leg to keep the knee pillow in place. The strap attaches to the knee pillow cover, which is machine washable.

Who would have thought that salts can be very relaxing? I’m not talking about the common type of salts though. I am talking about bath salts. They are really the best friend of every person who is stress induced from work.

That’s why I even taught myself on how to make my very own bath salts. In this way, I do not need to buy the ones from the mall and I save a lot of money. The last one I made is an almond bath salt. I even gave my mom some of it and she loved it very much.

Healthy Relaxation

An infrared sauna heats by using infrared radiant heat, or electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength that is longer than visible light. Some scientific studies have been performed on infrared sauna therapy, and the results were positive. One study reported that the treatment may be an effective adjunctive treatment in patients with congestive heart failure. Another study improves the risk for heart disease in some patients who undergo regular infrared sauna therapy.

Other studies found that mildly depressed patients with appetite loss exhibited a marked improvement in mood and appetite levels after four weeks of treatments. Another study reported that patients experiencing chronic pain showed a drop in pain score, pain behavior, anger, and depression after infrared sauna treatments. However, more research is needed to determine the long term effects of these treatments, and it is not recommended that you try this without consulting a qualified medical professional first.

Time Out

Time outs are what I look forward to from my busy load. Transforming my house apartment a relaxing cove was something I wanted to do for myself. That way I need not spend hard-earned cash in one of them spas or short vacations out in the city.

I splashed my apartment in neutral two-toned colors to get that relaxing feel of the spa. Candle oil warmers are sporadically placed in different sections of my urban space for invigorating scents. Dim lights and lamp pieces provide ample lighting without being too bright on the eyes. Time out on a place all my own is definitely one of life’s pleasures.

Spa at Work

Not having the time to go to my favorite spa can really be a burnout. With tons of deadlines to do, sometimes I need that short break away from it all. My aromatherapy pens do the trick. My pen takes me to my spa with its aromatic oil, with lavender scents to relax me in an otherwise tension-filled day at the office.

My aromatherapy pens calms and composes me when my boss demands to turn in that report. Thinking clearly isn’t that easy in a space cramped with noisy workmates. It’s like I have my very own spa at work.

A hectic life is forgotten with a warm soak with aromatic bath oils. These oils are a perfect addition to pamper and moisturize the skin. Aside from smelling good, bath oils can help one relax or gear up for a night with friends. These are wonderful additions to a typical bath time experience.

Regular use of bath oils help nourish the skin and eliminate dry, flaky skin. Natural oils from coconut, olive or jojoba provide that much needed improvement of the skin in a pollution-infested city. The warm bath helps these oils to be easily absorbed by the skin, for a supple effect. Warm baths are the perfect ending to a busy day.
