Potentially Advantageous Research Related to Stem Cells

June 28th, 2010

Stem cell therapy is being viewed as a potential big leap in medicine. Those interested have their eyes open and their nose constantly on the lookout for news about its progress. Stem cell news is regularly being published. Recent reports have shown the success of human stem cell research in the field of regenerative medicine. News like this is pleasant to hear for people banking on the success of stem cell research to remedy difficult to cure situations. They hope that discoveries will be commercially viable soon.

Another good news is that scientists in London have overcome two significant obstacles on the road to harnessing stem cells to build patches for damaged hearts. Research leader Professor Sian Harding has explained how her group has made significant progress in maturing beating heart cells (cardiomyocytes) derived from embryonic stem cells and in developing the physical scaffolding that would be needed to hold the patch in place in the heart in any future clinical application. They have managed to follow beating embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes for up to seven months in the laboratory and demonstrate that these cells do mature. Developed cardiomyocytes will then be more compatible with adult heart and less likely to cause arrhythmias. This is good news, indeed, to people suffering from heart abnormalities.

When you were a kid, your parents, teachers and dentist constantly reminded you to brush your teeth after every meal. They used to drag you to the bathroom just so you could clean your choppers. Now that you are grown, they are proven to be right. If it weren’t for their instruction, you would have lost some or most of your teeth today. You could be wearing dentures today if it weren’t for them.

There is one more thing that will make you happy they made you brush your teeth until you’re used to doing it. There’s a recent study linking heart disease to people who do not regularly brush their teeth. Quite a scary thought since who would think that problems with the teeth could lead to something very serious. The study says that bacteria in unclean teeth and gums can travel to the blood stream to reach and affect the heart. So to prevent this, continue brushing your teeth regularly.

Big homes don’t necessarily need big items to maximize their functions. Like for portable air purifiers, these are usually highly recommended because they can easily be moved all around. At least, when these purifiers are brought to each part of the house, the cleaning is focused and concentrated as far as house part is concerned. Say, you want to filter the air in the kitchen; you can just easily move the purifier to your kitchen and do the cleaning just there. The same thing goes for the bedroom, living and bath.

Portable air purifiers are now the in thing. Because we live in a fast-paced life now, we don’t need heavy things that are normally difficult to move and carry. Portable air purifiers can be operated anytime so easily. Because it is user-friendly, you can even do the air cleaning while watching the TV or preparing to go to work. It’s just like setting up an air condition or heating unit at home.

A major finding in cancer treatment research is the correlation between people’s dependence on synthetic medication and the increase in the number of people afflicted with cancer and other degenerative illnesses. This was discovered by Dr. Alkaitis, a research scientist investigating cancer treatments using plant life. In probing the ingredient labels on products in the marketplace that are marked: ‘pure’ and/or ‘natural’ cosmetics, he discovered that these supposedly ‘pure’ products were actually constructed, derived, created from chemicals. Chemical-derived natural products do not support your skin’s natural ability to heal.

This led him to create the Alkaitis Holistic Organic Skin Treatment Product line. He believes that only organically-grown plants or those harvested from the unpolluted wilderness contain the superior therapeutic properties. His product line include purifying cleanser and toner, organic crèmes for day and night, exfoliating masks, body wash, shampoo and more. Products are created in a base of organic aloe vera gel; there are no synthetic chemicals, transfats or GMOs. They are especially beneficial for sensitive skin.

Facts About Stem Cell Research

June 24th, 2010
Comments Off

Stem cells are found in all multi-cellular organisms. They can regenerate through mitotic cellular division and differentiation. These cells are special because they can be cultured to grow and transform into specialized cells with a specific purpose. There are two types of stem cells – embryonic, or those found in blastocysts, and adult stem cells from adult tissues.

If you are planning to get into this particular field, it is best to be informed about some stem cell research facts. You have to be familiar with what stem cells can do, such as its method of regeneration and what it can do in terms of cell repair. Some researchers are investigating stem cells from animals for their potential in curing untreatable diseases. Though with some success, it also has made us confront some ethical issues.

Arteries are like hoses. They carry blood from your heart to the rest of your body. If you crimp in the hose, pressure will build up. High blood pressure is pretty much the same thing. This occurs when blood moves through the arteries at a higher pressure than normal. Too much pressure can cause your arteries to pop, and can very well lead to death.

Knowing how to lower blood pressure is important. Follow a healthy eating pattern – avoid overly fatty and salty foods. Exercising is also good to burn off all that fat in your body. Limit your alcohol intake and stop smoking, as it can increase blood pressure in some people. Follow these tips, and you will be rid of high blood pressure in no time.

What Seniors Deserves

June 22nd, 2010

People have to realize that our elders were the builders of the economy in the not so distant past. A lot of people seem to overlook that fact. They see them as weak beings that always need assistance and care. They do not realize that these people were once young and able bodied individuals that worked hard to provide for their families. These people once helped in nation building by upholding the law and paying taxes.

And since they have contributed so much to the nation and society, they should be accorded the respect that they deserve. With all the hard work that they have put out in their prime, they have lesser strength than they used to have when they were young. As courtesy for the elderly, they should be given priority in for instance, grocery stores. They should also have special lines in movie theaters. They should also be offered senior discounts for them to enjoy more out of life.
