Carving is the most common way of adding a design to wood. Anything made of wood – furniture, figurines, walking sticks, boxes, etc. – are carved to add style and personality to it. Customization of wooden possessions has become popular, and most people have these carved and then given to someone as a gift. A carved walking stick, for example, is a great birthday gift to an old loved one.
A carved walking stick can have its design either on the handle or the shaft. Usual designs on the handle would be heads of animals, such as lions, eagles, wolves, etc. The designs on the shaft are usually vines, waves, spirals and helixes. Carved walking sticks can be a representation of a person’s personality, as well as his sense of style.
