The Needs of the Elderly

September 8th, 2010

When we talk of the elderly we usually have in mind their special needs. There are various types including financial, emotional, health needs and nursing requirements. This time, let us examine their health care and nursing requirements. With advancing age the elderly tends to be less efficient. They will require more supervision and more frequent medical check-ups to anticipate potential health related issues.

Unless they are suffering from a major illness, most of the elderly needs can be managed at home. They will most probably need special supplies such as adult diaper and special equipment such as safety chairs that they can use in the bathroom. They should be given as much independence as possible. However, there should always be someone that she can call for assistance. The elderly will require assistance in basic activities like eating, dressing and bathing.
