elderly health

It is important to understand how older individuals manage the challenges associated with physical disease and identify processes that enhance and maintain their psychological and physical health. Nutrient deficiencies appear to increase with age. Studies have shown that 80% of those aged 79 or above were found to be consuming inadequate amounts of four or more nutrients. This nutritional deficiency compromises elderly health. This is aggravated when they have to undergo illness, surgery of infections.

It becomes obvious that the diet of the elderly should be studied carefully. The bulk of his diet should include foods that are high in fiber like whole grain breads and cereal. Milk products are high in calcium and vitamin D. They help keep bones strong. People, especially those living alone have the tendency to eat something convenient and unhealthy. They find it too cumbersome to cook for one. This should be corrected as it adds to the problem of nutrient deficiency.
