commode chair

August 21st, 2009

Living and taking care of an elderly parent or relative can be difficult. Even when they are in a situation where movement is difficult, they insist on doing things for themselves. This is understandable. Elderly people like to hold on to their independence as long as possible. We should let them do this by helping them with equipment that allows them to do personal needs on their own.

A commode chair will allow them to do toileting and bathing on their own. Moving around will be made possible with rolling or mobile commodes. There is a wide selection of commodes available. In your selection, consider these qualities. Weight capacity is important. The standard weight capacity is 250 pounds but depending on the weight of the person who will use it weight capacity can go as high as 450 pounds. Wheels and brakes are also important so that the patient can be wheeled around with ease. Fold ability is another positive quality. Not only does it save bathroom space, it is also practical to carry to different locations when needed.
