senior citizen exercises

September 17th, 2009

Senior citizens are advised to do daily 30 minute moderately intense cardio exercises at least 5 days a week. The time may be broken down into 10 minute bouts each. Alternately, they can, if possible, do vigorously intense cardio exercise 20 minutes a day for 3 days each week. In addition, they should do strength-training exercises that will involve working the various major muscle groups. They should also include exercises that will help improve balance.

These suggestions for senior citizen exercises should help older adults stay strong, improve overall health and fitness levels and avoid diseases. It is also suggested that the exercises should be done in short bouts. This is useful when trying to fit in the exercises to a busy schedule. It will also help to have a set schedule. The key is to set aside specific days and time for exercises, making it a regular part of the daily schedule.
