Caregiving
Lucky are the elderly who are provided with appropriate care in this stage of their lives. Caregiving can be provided by relatives at home. It can also be availed of in nursing homes, care being provided by professionals. Care giving simply means that assistance is being provided to someone who needs it. It can be the wife or child who cares for a spouse or father who has just suffered a stroke and is recuperating at home. It can also refer to medical personnel who are hired to provide full or part time care. Some patients needing care are taken to nursing homes where they can get full-time attention.
Care giving is not as easy as it looks. A lot of caregivers, whether they are family members or hired professionals, suffer from stress that come with the job. Some of the frustrations of a caregiver come with problems relating to the patient. It is often difficult to manage patients. They are usually hard headed, irritable and are bent on doing whatever they want. Other problems of caregivers involve being guilty about not being able to provide the best care. Loneliness and depression can set in because of the curtailed social life.
