cardiovascular activities

August 12th, 2009

Cardiovascular exercise is any activity that gets your heart working. This type of activity can be sustained from 15 to 60 minutes, even beyond. The most common cardiovascular activities include jogging, cycling and hiking.

There are two main types of cardiovascular exercises:
~Weight-bearing wherein the feet and legs support the body weight. Activities such as running, rope jumping and stair climbing are great for strengthening bones.
~Non-weight-bearing is when the body is supported during exercise. Examples of this include bicycling, rowing and swimming. These activities are easier on the back, knees and other joints thus having lower risk of injury than weight-bearing exercises.
