Glucosamine vs. NSAIDs
The irony is that glucosamine has to be taken for long lengths of time before any benefit manifests. Also, liquid glucosamine may contain sugar and/or alcohol. In diabetic patients, this can be a factor that can lead to changing blood levels and as a result it is very important to check with your doctor prior to initiating glucosamine therapy. In spite of this, glucosamine is considered a viable alternative to NSAIDs.
NSAIDs reduce inflammation and relieve fever and pain by blocking enzymes and proteins made by the body. Because it relieves pain and reduces inflammation it is a popular medication for arthritis. NSAIDs have wider usage than glucosamine because it has been there longer. Glucosamine is also more specific in its use. Both should be used with caution.
