March 20th, 2009

The goal for a normal blood pressure is to keep it below 140/90. The best way to prevent hypertension is to start early in adapting a lifestyle that will contribute to maintenance of normal blood pressure. Let us be reminded again of how we can do this – maintaining a healthy weight, doing physical exercise, practicing healthy eating habits, and avoiding salt, smoking and alcohol. Studies have shown that a healthy eating plan that centers on fruits, vegetables and low- fat dairy food can help to prevent elevate blood pressure.

Maintaining a healthy eating regimen will help maintain normal weight. To help further, physical activity is recommended. A simple walking program can help a lot. Take note of tips to be motivated in your walking program. It pays to have a walking buddy. When you know someone is waiting for you, there will be less chance of playing hooky.
