Liver function

The liver is a body organ that lies below the diaphragm in the thoracic region of the abdomen. It is the largest glandular organ of the body and plays a major role in body metabolism. Liver function includes glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production and detoxification. The bile that it produces is an alkaline compound which aids in digestion. It also filters harmful substances from the blood and maintains the proper level of glucose in the blood.

The liver is an important organ that keeps our body running. We should take extra effort to care for it. We do this by eating the right foods. The liver needs food that is high in protein such as meats and legumes. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also important. Fat consumption, especially saturated fats, should be kept to the minimum and too much intake of alcohol should be avoided. The best way to take care of the liver is to drink a lot of water. It helps flush toxins out of the body thereby maintaining a clean liver and body.
