People who don’t have diabetes produce enough insulin needed for obtaining energy from glucose. Unfortunately, a diabetic cannot achieve this balance thus the need for diabetes nutrition so as not to aggravate the condition further. One of the fist dietary rules for diabetics is the avoidance of all sugar and foods containing sugar such as pastries, candies and soft drinks.
Diabetics are instead encouraged to eat more complex carbohydrates which are bulky and fiber-rich foods. They should also eat smaller but more frequent meals rather than two or three big meals per day. Multiple feedings are likely to keep blood cholesterol levels lower. Vegetables are also ideal foods as a diabetic can eat a large plate of spinach which is already equivalent in carbohydrate contained in a tablespoonful of sugar.
