cytokines
December 9th, 2009
Our immunity system is greatly responsible for our overall wellness. It is well controlled by cytokines which are proteins secreted by the body. They also have the ability to regulate inflammation and hematopoiesis (blood cell development). There are cytokines that turn the immunity on and there are cytokines that turn off the immune system.
There are many different kinds of cytokines. One is histamine, which is released by the body during allergic reaction. Another is prostaglandin which is released when there is a trauma. Interleukins, on the other hand are types of cytokines that are expressed by the white blood cells.
