Diabetics should watch out for the sudden drop of blood glucose below normal levels. This is a condition called hypoglycemia. It can occur as a side effect of some diabetes medication which aims to increase insulin production. Some of the symptoms of hypoglycemia are hunger, shakiness, nervousness and sweating. Light headedness many also be experienced as well as sleepiness and weakness.

Diabetics should be familiar with these symptoms so that they can take immediate treatment steps once they recognize them. Relatives and friends should also be informed about these symptoms so that they can extend immediate help. If they find that blood sugar is too low, they should immediately be given quick fix foods that will raise the sugar level fast. Examples are candy and ice cream. It is important that they take only the right amount of these sugar laden foods.
