sunless tanning lotion

October 1st, 2009

Tanning products have a reaction that is the opposite of the effects desired when we use a sun screen or a sunblock lotion. Instead of blocking it, a sunless tanning lotion will amplify the effects of ultraviolet. This is usually accomplished by using ingredients that promote the production of melanin (including using actual melanin as an ingredient) or by increasing the blood flow to the skin, thereby increasing the amount of melanin that is brought to the top layers of the skin.

Some of the active ingredients found in common tanning lotions include melanin and L-Tyrosine. Other commonly found ingredients include tea oil, copper, green tea extract and many other natural oils. Ingredients vary widely from brand to brand. There are only minor side effects associated with tanning solutions. These are related to allergic reactions to the ingredients contained in the solution used. What is important to keep in mind is that it does not protect the person from the effects of sunlight.
