L-carnitine
August 20th, 2009
The kidneys and the liver produce a naturally occurring hydrophilic amino acid derivative that is used to transport fat into cells. The fat is then transformed into energy that can then be used up by the body. This amino acid derivative is now better known as L-carnitine as its supposed fat burning qualities became a frequent ingredient in weight loss supplements.
L-carnitine can be bought in liquid, powder or capsule form. But it also occurs naturally in meat such as beef, mutton or lamb. It has become more and more popular with those who are interested in losing weight. The supplements are also often given to those who have Alzheimer’s or heart problems.
