Too many things are being attributed to Vitamin C. First and foremost, it helps the immune system. Taking Vitamin C supplement shields a person from the bad effects of external forces. It is an antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals that can cause serious diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Vitamin C is also responsible for producing collagen which holds the body cells together.

What happens when a person lacks vitamin C? They are prone to bruising. Their wounds take time to heal. Lack of Vitamin C will manifest in unhealthy gums; they develop black swollen gums known as scurvy. Taking Vitamin C supplement will avoid all these.
