Stem cell therapy is being viewed as a potential big leap in medicine. Those interested have their eyes open and their nose constantly on the lookout for news about its progress. Stem cell news is regularly being published. Recent reports have shown the success of human stem cell research in the field of regenerative medicine. News like this is pleasant to hear for people banking on the success of stem cell research to remedy difficult to cure situations. They hope that discoveries will be commercially viable soon.

Another good news is that scientists in London have overcome two significant obstacles on the road to harnessing stem cells to build patches for damaged hearts. Research leader Professor Sian Harding has explained how her group has made significant progress in maturing beating heart cells (cardiomyocytes) derived from embryonic stem cells and in developing the physical scaffolding that would be needed to hold the patch in place in the heart in any future clinical application. They have managed to follow beating embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes for up to seven months in the laboratory and demonstrate that these cells do mature. Developed cardiomyocytes will then be more compatible with adult heart and less likely to cause arrhythmias. This is good news, indeed, to people suffering from heart abnormalities.
