Herbalife’s Beginnings
It was 1980 when Mark Hughes started selling weight loss products from the trunk of his car. Those were the original Herbalife products which, according to Hughes, stemmed from the weight loss concerns of his mother. Hughes’ company adopted the multi-level marketing system for distribution and growth. Years after, it has already attracted thousands of distributors all over the world.
The company’s slogan is “Lose Weight Now, Ask Me How”. It became a marketing theme for distributors who rely heavily on badges, fliers and posters. Some methods for recruiting new members included seminars that feature distributors giving health and weight loss testimonials on Herbalife products with a range that includes protein shakes, protein snacks, nutrition, energy and fitness supplements and personal care items.
