For decades, people have argued over the legality of cannabis, more popularly known as marijuana. In most countries, cannabis is illegal to consume, use, possess, cultivate, transfer, or trade. In fact, there was a widespread cannabis prohibition during the turn of the 20th century. However, more than 10 countries now have decriminalized its use and cultivation in limited quantities.

Where is cannabis legal? It is okay to use cannabis in a number of countries which include Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands and Israel. Cannabis is also legal in 14 states of the United States. Some jurisdictions have lessened the penalties for possession of cannabis in small quantities from imprisonment to just confiscation and a fine. People punished are those who traffic and sell the drug on the black market.
