build muscle

April 29th, 2009

Lifting weights is for people who want to improve their muscle tone and be stronger physically. To help achieve their goal, they follow a safe and effective program that involves the use of free weights or machines. Either of the two, when used properly, can help build muscle. Fitness buffs may or may not have a personal trainer to guide them in their exercise routines.

Leg press, leg extension, and leg curl machines are great for strengthening and building leg muscles. The leg extension machine targets the quadriceps muscles, while the leg curl machine fortifies the hamstrings. Working with a leg press machine is similar to doing squats with weights, only safer and with less stress on the lower back. The exercise is also done while sitting down – as opposed to the standing position of the squat exercise – since most leg press machines are set at a 45 degree angle. Free weights like the EZ bar and the tricep bar are for those who wish to give their arm muscles a good workout. Barbells and dumbbells may also be used in place of these two bars.
