moisturizer
These are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin softer and more pliable. A moisturizer achieves this by reducing evaporation and increasing its hydration. Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin, protect sensitive skin, improve skin tone and texture, and mask imperfections. There are moisturizers for different parts of the body such as the face, lips, hands and legs. Moisturizers are available commercially as cosmetics.
The basic function of the moisturizer is to keep the skin hydrated. It is just a temporary barrier that keeps moisture in the skin but it also protects its outer layer. Moisturizers in the market today are more than just protective. Ingredients are added to improve the function of the moisturizer. For example, humectants absorb water from the air and hold the moisture in the skin. Emollients fill spaces between the cells in the skin to smooth and lubricate rough skin. Fragrances and preservatives are also added.
